About the Artist:

Megan Smey is an oil painter currently engrossed by plein air landscape painting. Traditionally trained in the arts from her formative years at Rod Serling School of Fine Arts, she practiced studio at the State University of New York at Binghamton, during which time she studied abroad in Ireland and Scotland. It was after traveling the Irish countryside, in particular, that she discovered oil paint to be an infinitely fulfilling medium, and has not put it down since.

Largely inspired by the subtle relationships of shape and color found in the vast space of landscapes, Smey sets the stage for her personal and fictional narrative. While visiting these transitional spaces, which are more often than not subject to the ever-changing elements, she submerses herself in painting in an attempt to convey a momentary truth related to geometry, pattern, or light. Her technique is playful, energetic, with deliberate brush strokes in stark color palettes. Her influences include Hayao Miyazaki, Granville Redmond, John William Waterhouse, and her mentor George Dugan.
